Description

A journey of about 1 hour by air conditioned bus through spectacular mountain and coastal scenery brings us to the banks of the lake at Dalyan. Here, small covered boats take us down the meanderin Dalyan river delta, twisting and turning through thick vegetation which is overlooked by the 4th century BC Rock Cut Tombs, sculpted hundreds of feet up in to the sheer cliff face. A stop at the sulphurous mudbaths. After lunch at a riverside restaurant, we spend the afternoon on the golden sands of Iztuzu beach, famous as a protect breeding ground of loggerhead turtles.

We first explore the Lycian, Byzantine and ottoman ruins at the ancient city of Tlos, home of the winged horse Pegasus. From the hilltop castle, the view of the surrounding countryside is outstanding. We stop for a cool drink at peaceful Yakapark trout farm, before heading off to Saklikent Canyon, the 3rd longest gorge in Europe & Asia. After lunch by the riverside, there’s plenty of oppurtunity to either explore the canyon,or relax under cool, leafy glades as the city waters rush by.

Lunch is to be served on the boat before a stop at St. Nicholas Island where you can climb amongst ruins to the top of the island for magnficient views. It is possible to walk around some of the water pools, before exploring the nearby ruins of Hierapolis of over 1200 sarcophagi can still be seen.

To see Turkish natural village life is a real treat: villages are picturesque places where life has changed little for centuries, and Turkish people are naturally hospitable to visitors, The quiet street of Üzümlü Village are lined with charming timber-framed Ottoman buildings adorned with wooden balconies and brightly painted doors. A short drive bring us to the site of Cadianda, where Lycian and Roman ruins of houses, public baths, a castle and a theatre, lie scattered under the pine trees on the mountainside at a height of 6,000 ft. From here, the views of Fethiye and surrounding valleys are breathtaking. In Ören, we enjoy a delicious lunch and a walk by the river as village life goes on nearby.
